A sudden feeling of warmth usually on the neck, face and chest are called hot flashes. Hot flashes generally take place due to menopause, which is a period when women stop menstruating due to irregular periods. Rapid heartbeat, red and patchy skin, sweatiness in the upper part of the body is some of the symptoms of hot flashes. In many cases people also feel chill or cold as the hot flashes increase. Women who is undergoing menopause may suffer from hot flashes several time in a day. Alcohol, smoking, spicy food are the causes of hot flashes.
